Historic Cherry Hill

New Fourth Grade Education Unit Published

Kittie Putman and the Cherry Hill Household, 1860-1884, the museum's newest education unit, is now available to teachers and other educators. Designed to meet New York State's Social Studies Standard 1: History of the United States and New York, the unit contains facsimiles of almost 100 primary sources including letters, diaries, photographs, school compositions, census records, receipts, cartoons, floor plans, sheet music, and trade cards from the collections of Historic Cherry Hill, the New York State Library, the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution and other repositories. The unit features 45 lessons with interdisciplinary and hands-on activities as well as answer keys, student worksheets, information sheets, transcriptions and more.

The publication, targeting the fourth grade, was designed for classroom use, and has already been hailed by museum professionals as an outstanding resource. This and the museum's education unit for the 7th and 8th grades, Different Voices, Different Truths: The 1827 Murder at Cherry Hill are available for $25 each (the school and library rate is $20). Both make excellent use of the museum's collections in meeting Historic Cherry Hill's educational mission.
