It was November 24th, 1918. The doorbell rang, and the postman delivered the mail–and a tragic blow to the Cherry Hill family. Step into Cherry Hill 100 years later–almost to the day–and witness the scene that unfolds when Sergeant Bernard Hennessy reaches out to the Rankin family with news of their son and brother, Captain Herbert Rankin.
Immerse yourself in World War I at Cherry Hill. In an original play by Krysta Dennis, actors in the historic house will bring to life the tragic experience of the Rankin family, and virtual reality will transport audiences onto the boat where son and brother Captain Herbert Rankin—known to his chums as “Dutch”— began his journey to France.
Ticket price includes a WWI-inspired reception in the historic kitchen and an opportunity to view the family’s war-related artifacts in the upper rooms.
“Dutch” is a collaboration between Historic Cherry Hill and Siena College sponsored by Humanities New York, the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, and the USS Slater.
