The numbers are in…Cherry Hill’s school audience grew by 37% in 2019! Throughout our restoration project, most of these students have participated in an offsite program in collaboration with the Discover Albany Visitors Center called the Hudson River Trading Game & Traveling the Seas. The program, sponsored by the Port of Albany, integrates history, economics, and science using role playing on a 34-foot game board…and kids love it!
The Hudson River Trading Game has gained the attention–not only of teachers and students–but of museum colleagues as well. Shawna Reilly, Cherry Hill’s Education Coordinator, will be presenting on the program at this year’s Greater Hudson Heritage Network Conference, “Experimenting with History” at Bear Mountain Inn & Conference Center. We were delighted to be selected from–in the words of Greater Hudson Heritage Network–an “overwhelming” number of proposals.
We will continue to offer the Hudson River Trading Game in 2020…but we also can’t wait to welcome students onsite again for place-based programs once the restoration is complete!
