We are please to announce that History Is Now teen guide training program will return for a second year! The after school program will meet every Thursday (4:30-6:30pm) from November 2022 through June 2023.
WHAT IS HISTORY IS NOW?
Join a diverse and supportive group of students from a variety of Albany schools! Through this program, students will investigate how history affects our lives, through a local lens. Students will gain skills in public speaking, historical thinking, and interpretation, applicable for college, work, and life. Professionals in the fields of history, academia, government, the arts and public advocacy groups will share their experiences and the skills they use in their careers and everyday lives. Between training sessions, we will also visit other local history sites, with behind-the-scenes tours with local experts.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE & EMPLOYMENT
Students will earn up to 65 volunteer hours for weekly training sessions, November through June. Participants who complete the training will be offered positions as paid tour guides at the historic house for 5 weeks in July and August 2022 through the city of Albany’s LIGHT Youth Employment Program. In 2022, Historic Cherry Hill received one of two worksite awards from city leaders.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The program is open to students who live in the City of Albany. Students must be between the ages 14 and 18 by Spring of 2023. No prior experience is necessary. Applicants need only commit to completing the program. Preference will be given to those who live in the South End, where the museum is located.
